Megan & Jon in Des Moines, IA
The bride carried a bouquet of pink Anna roses, chamelaucium and waxflower.
After choosing her gown Megan selected champagne-colored bridesmaid dresses to match her own gown’s accents.
Megan and Jon danced to Peter Gabriel’s “The Book of Love” -- Jon arranged the song himself for a string quartet and soloist, because they couldn’t find the music.
The garden ceremony location was framed by tall trees, giving a feeling of seclusion and intimacy. Minimal decorations like a wrought-iron arch and a candle arrangement enhanced the site’s natural beauty.
Four tiers of alternating chocolate and vanilla almond layers were iced in ivory. The cake was made by a friend.
Megan’s inspiration for her favors came from a magazine, but she made them herself. Three coordinating patterns of wrapping paper were turned into envelopes (750 of them!) and filled with three different types of candy. Satin ribbons tied groups of three envelopes together, one set for each of 250 guests.
The couple chose the castle-like Salisbury House after they both performed there with their college choirs.

Jon planned to surprise Megan with a Fourth of July proposal under the fireworks, but her boss had other ideas -- scheduling her to work late that night.

The Date June 10

After a frantic Jon called Megan’s manager, the two schemed with a co-worker to help make it happen. “I was relieved to not have to work late,” says Megan, “but not half as relieved as Jon when I called him back and told him we could go to the fireworks after all.” After laying out a picnic of sparking wine and chocolate covered strawberries, Jon asked a stunned Megan to marry him, and she happily accepted.
