Katie & Shaun in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Katie and Shaun said “I do” in a garden with the ocean as a dramatic backdrop. Guests were met by a mariachi band as they arrived at the site, and the mariachi music continued as the bride walked down the aisle.
Katie’s bouquet was composed of pink and white roses.
Shaun and his groomsmen perfectly fit the formality of the wedding in tan linen suits from Banana Republic. The groomsmen wore pink shirts with brown ties while Shaun wore a white shirt with a pink tie and a pink rose boutonniere.
Each bridesmaid carried a bouquet of pink gerbera daisies and white roses.
Katie wore a strapless, ivory dress with a lace overlay that included beading at the bust and appliques on the lace by La Sposa.
After the ceremony, the reception was held inside a palapa (a hut with a cone-like roof made out of thatch) overlooking the ocean, where dinner was served just as the sun was setting.
Katie and Shaun chose a pink and brown polka dot palette to help create a playful atmosphere. For the centerpieces, “Because we had to bring the vases down to Cabo with us, we decided to use galvanized pails so that they wouldn’t break in transport,” Katie explains. The results were fun, whimsical centerpieces that included green hydrangeas, pink gerbera daisies, white roses, and lisianthus.
After the delicious meal (guests enjoyed entrees of either chicken or salmon), the couple gave their guests tasty cookies for dessert.
Katie and Shaun gave their guests favors that were close to their hearts -- the couple made a donation to the cause of breast cancer. They included information about the donation in pink and brown boxes tied with polka dot ribbon.
Katie and Shaun’s first dance was to Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One.” A DJ spun a mix of ’80s and early ’90s tunes. “People were on the dance floor all night!” Katie says.

Katie and Shaun picked Cabo San Lucas for their wedding for a few key reasons -- the location was close enough to their California home so that their family and friends could attend, but a destination wedding also allowed them to keep their guest list on the small size.

When Katie and Shaun met, it was love at first scoop. Katie worked at an ice cream parlor her senior year of high school when Shaun came in with a mutual friend. “Once I served Shaun the scoop of ice cream, I knew there was something special about him,” Katie says. “He must have felt the same way!”
