Hera & Eduardo in Rhodes, Greece
Given the wedding locale, Hera decided she wanted to wear a Grecian-style gown with a contemporary line for her walk down the aisle. Because she had a hard time finding exactly what she was looking for, Hera worked with a Barcelona-based salon to design her dress. The result was a beautiful, flowing gown made of natural organza with dark ivory pleats. “I always wanted to design my own gown,” Hera laughs.
Surrounded by family and friends, Hera and Eduardo exchanged vows in a traditional orthodox ceremony at sunset in the courtyard of the small chapel. The white, sand beach and breathtaking Mediterranean vistas served as the perfect backdrop for the nuptials.
Before dessert was even served guests hit the dance floor, dancing until 5 a.m. to a fusion of Greek, Cuban, and Spanish tunes. A Greek band provided the music for the traditional Greek line dancing, while a DJ spun tracks for the rest of the night. Hera and Eduardo danced their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s, “It Happened in Monterey” in honor of the country where they met.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests celebrated at the reception also held in the chapel’s courtyard. “We liked the idea of not moving from the ceremony space to the reception area,” the couple says. For favors, female guests received fans.
Male guests received Cuban cigars, straight from Cuba!
Having lived everywhere from Barcelona to the Caribbean, the couple chose a wedding location special to their hearts. “My family lives in Rhodes,” Hera says, “and being Greek, there was no way out of not having the wedding in Greece.” Hera and Eduardo soon began planning their “Greek-Cuban party” (Hera is Greek, Eduardo is Cuban) in The White House Village of Lindos, under the ancient Lindos acropolis on the bay of St. Paul. “We couldn’t have picked a more perfect location,” the couple says.

For years, Hera and Eduardo joked about getting married. “Whenever one of us would do something silly, the other would ask ‘so are you going to marry me now?’” Fortunately, Eduardo wasn’t joking when he asked Hera this on the evening of August 27 during a trip to her hometown of Rhodes, Greece -- Hera awoke the next morning to find a beautiful ring on her finger.
