Wedding Planning - Wedding Dresses - Wedding Cakes

Wanting them to be comfortable in their dresses, Kate set only one guideline for her bridesmaids: that they wear navy. So her six bridesmaids all wore navy dresses in various styles from J.Crew and Ann Taylor.
For her bouquet, Kate wanted something simple, mostly white, and fragrant. She walked down the aisle holding white dendrobium orchids, white mini calla lilies, white freesia, light-blue delphinium, and white pearled stephanotis that were lightly dusted with silver.
Cool and laid-back, Nik and the groomsmen wore navy blue blazers, white button-down shirts, and khaki pants. To tie it all together, Nik gifted the groomsmen with light-blue ties.
The ceremony took place on the lawn of the Newagen Seaside Inn. A light-blue shantung banner with the couple’s new monogram (designed by Kate’s mother) was tied between two blue birch poles and adorned with flowers. Hydrangeas hanging from the aisle chairs also added charm to the ceremony space.
Dinner and dancing were held in a tent on the lower lawn of the Newagen, just off the water. Tables were set up and covered with white linens and navy organza overlays. Votives doubled as individual place cards for guests.
Kate and Nik cut into a three-tier, fondant-covered cake with navy dots and a cluster of sugar-made stephanotis at the top and on the sides. The cake flavors were cardamom pound cake (in honor of Nik’s Swedish heritage) with wild Maine blueberry filling and cream cheese frosting, and chocolate cake with espresso buttercream.
For their sunny September wedding day, the tent was set up next to a walkway by the water and the walls were kept open to the outdoors.

When Kate met Nik, it wasn’t love at first sight. In fact, Kate’s college friend and roommate had a crush on Nik, so she figured he was off-limits. But eventually Kate’s friend started dating someone else, and the two became close friends. Friendship led to a relationship, and about a year and a half later, Nik proposed on the beach in Maine, near her family’s summer home.

The Date September 16

With the help of a wedding planner, Kate and her mother put together a destination wedding in Maine. Kate chose a nautical theme with navy and silver colors to complement their surroundings. Once they discovered the Newagen Seaside Inn in Southport -- with its views of the rocky coastline, islands, and lobster boats -- they knew they had found their site.
