Paige & Doug in Lyndonville, NYKnot Pick
The tent ceiling was decorated with vines, twinkling lights, and hanging baskets of blue and yellow blooms.
Yellow-checkered tablecloths added to the festive atmosphere, and jars of local honey (the beekeepers are old family friends) awaited each guest at his or her seat.
Fitting with the “natural” theme, Paige and Doug’s three-tiered carrot cake was decorated in vanilla icing. It had a buttercup yellow-base and was detailed with small buttercup-yellow flowers, green butterflies, and a small bouquet of freshly cut blue and yellow flowers on top.
Paige’s maids were given a choice of Bengaline Blonde frocks by Thread (four out of five chose the Nicole style). Doug and his groomsmen wore black tuxedos by Tuxedo Junction. Their Bengaline Blonde ties matched the bridesmaid dresses.
Tables were decorated with various mixed blue and yellow blossoms, springing up from metal watering cans. Each table also featured a silly photo of the bride and groom.
Paige and Doug planned their own unique ceremony and vows, blending time-honored traditions with personal beliefs and preferences, including honoring Paige’s feminist views and love of nature and Doug’s Episcopalian background. The couple wrote their own definitions of marriage, which were read aloud by their respective aunts, and they included a special section in the ceremony during which they personally affirmed their reasons for marrying.

When Paige Doughty and Doug Washburn chose to study abroad in France, chemistry struck over a bottle of red wine at a Parisian cafe. Four years later, the couple found themselves in Paris again -- this time for Doug’s job. After a romantic scavenger hunt, Doug took Paige on a winding adventure through the streets of the City of Lights before getting down on one knee at the spot where they had one of their first dates.

Paige has never lived in one place for long, so the couple chose to wed in the one spot that seemed like home to the bride -- the shores of Lake Ontario in Lyndonville, near her grandmother’s old farm. This locale was very special to Paige; she says she wanted to share her “love of the natural world and the sense of place that family history provides.” The couple worked hard to create a celebration that complemented the rural setting. For a color palette, they chose shades of blue and yellow, which were on display with the locally grown flowers used in all the arrangements.
