Meg & Jim in Moose Pass, AK
Meg wore a strapless, raw silk dress, which she had bought at a sample sale in San Francisco. Her homemade fabric hairpiece was accented with birch taken from her backyard.
The couple’s outdoor ceremony took place at the Inn at Tern Lake, located in the one-stoplight town of Moose Pass. Neither Meg nor Jim grew up in Alaska, but both have lived there for years and loved the landscape.
Birch and fern leaves lined the outdoor ceremony aisle. (The yard actually doubles as an airplane runway!)
Meg and Jim made the reception table runners themselves and then rented the rest of the linens for the indoor dinner.
Meg made the reception table centerpiece vases out of birch and then found a florist to arrange pink dahlias, peonies, and local ferns in each for a rustic, elegant look. Numbered pictures of Meg and Jim’s two Labrador-mix dogs identified each table.
Meg and Jim danced to salsa music played off an iPod for their first dance to pay homage to the salsa lessons they took during their first year of dating.
Meg and Jim’s three-tiered, white fondant-frosted cake was decorated with brown fondant floral cutouts. The chocolate and raspberry confection sat atop a milk-glass cake stand, which the couple had bought on eBay.
Apple pie and vanilla ice cream were also on hand for dessert.

Meg’s roommate introduced Meg and Jim at a fundraiser. A week later, Jim emailed Meg, and soon the two were dating.

The Date July 12

When the temperature dropped to 20 below one weekend in March, all of Meg and Jim’s friends bailed on the ski cabin they had booked, leaving the couple alone. Jim tried to lure Meg outside for an outdoor winter proposal, but when she couldn’t be coerced from the fireplace, he asked her right there.
