Newlyweds for 1512 days!
HOW IT HAPPENED
One summer weekend in 2004, we went to Bethany Beach with our friend Joy. Saturday night, the three of us went out to Seacrets, the Ocean City nightspot. A few drinks and a lot of dancing later, Liz and crew were ready to hit a diner for a late night snack. After that, it was time to head back to Bethany Beach... or so Liz thought.
Well, on the way back home, Joy had a brilliant plan to show us the BethanyCam on the boardwalk. Mind you, by this time it was approching 2:00 AM after a very long day. Little did Liz know that Jarriel had filled Joy in on a plan earlier in the day.
Well, we got to the boardwalk, where it was quite chilly and windy. Liz complained the whole time (she was tired and cold). Once we saw the famed BethanyCam, Liz was more than ready to head back and investigate further the next day when it wasn't cold and windy and the shops were open.
Jarriel insisted that she join him on a walk, meanwhile leaving Joy on a bench in the dark in the middle of the night. Anyone who knows Joy knows she can take care of herself but leaving her alone on a bench on the boardwalk at 2:00 AM didn't seem like a great plan. But in the interest of getting back to the car, Liz humored him and went on a short walk... looking back at Joy to make sure she was still there.
With Liz telling Jarriel all the way that 'this was a great walk and could we please go back now where it is not freezing' Jarriel insisted that he had a question to ask.
As it turned out, he got down on one knee and asked Liz to marry him. Being the true romantic that she is, the first words out of Liz's mouth were 'Holy Crap.' Once the shock subsided, of course, she agreed.
The three finally returned back to the condo and proceeded to call some people who they knew would still be up... and called even more the next day driving home.
