ABOUT MARISSA
Marissa Lana Dixon, 27, was born in Santa Ana, California, and attended Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. She is a 2001 graduate of Angelo State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Recently, Marissa earned a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix. She is currently working for America Online as a Retention Specialist and has been for over 2 years.
ABOUT JASON
Jason Paul Russo, 26, was born in Manchester, Connecticut, and attended Manchester High School. He is a 2001 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Jason is a Lieutenant and helicopter pilot in the Navy stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. He recently deployed overseas flying SH-60B Seahawk helicopters for HSL-42 in support of the USS Normandy.
HOW WE MET
Jason and Marissa met in December of 2001 at a restaurant in Corpus Christi. The stars were definitely aligned that night. Marissa had agreed to go to dinner with a man (not Jason) she had met one evening in downtown Corpus Christi - only on the condition that she could bring a friend. He agreed to this request and decided to bring a friend of his as well. That night at the restaurant, Marissa and her friend patiently waited for the two to arrive. As Marissa's date walked in the restaurant she noticed from far away that his friend was very tall and this peaked her interest. When the two finally approached the table Marissa looked up at her date's friend and fell in love! That friend was in fact Jason and he quickly developed the same feelings for Marissa. Luckily for the both of them, Jason's friend was extremely understanding when the newfound love was explained to him.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Marissa was wrapping up a presentation at school and could not wait to return home to exchange gifts with Jason as he was leaving for Connecticut the next day on Christmas vacation. They had agreed to exchange one gift that night before he left and then they would meet one week later in Connecticut to spend the holiday together with his family. Marissa had only asked for one important gift and was hoping it would be waiting for her at home. When she arrived home she found that all the Christmas candles were lit and a Nat King Cole Christmas album was playing. Jason had the biggest smile on his face as he stood next to her one important gift -- a standing jewelry box. She was very excited but still secretly wished that one of the jewelry box drawers contained a "special" piece of jewelry. As she eagerly opened each empty drawer she was disappointed to learn that there was no jewelry to be found, but noticed that there was a second clothing sized present resting next to the jewelry box. As she opened the second gift she had abandoned all hope that she would receieve an engagement ring and instead decided to focus on this other gift that she thought would be an article of clothing. As she moved the tissue around instead of finding clothing she found a smaller box hidden inside. As she opened the tiny box she was shocked by the sparkle of the ring...and even more shocked when he knelt on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage.
