Newlyweds for 1246 days!
ABOUT JESSICA
Jessica grew up in Butler, PA (an hour north of Pittsburgh) and did a little bit of everything growing up. After applying to a few colleges, unsure of where she wanted to go or what she wanted to do, she decided to go to Grove City College. There, she majored in Communication and minored in Sociology. While there, she was active in Orientation Board, Orchesis Dance Troupe, May Dance Pageant and Marquettes (Marching Band Dance Line). She graduated in May of 2004 and started working in June of 2004 at Anchor Distributors, a Christian Book Distributor as a Sales Territory Manager.
ABOUT DANIEL
Dan grew up in Chesterland, OH (30 minutes east of Cleveland) and did everything boy-ish growing up. Story has it his parents gave him an ax when he was something like 5... Dan loved and excelled in track, basketball, baseball and football. He was the 5th generation Roseum to play at West Geauga High School and he served as a captain there. Dan really wanted to be a student athlete and decided to attend Grove City College. There, all his coaches laughed at him when he told them he was majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Little did they know that four years later, he would graduate with highest honors in Mechanical Engineering. Dan was involved with ICO mission trips to Guatemala, Football (of course) where he was captain his senior year, his fraternity (Epsilon Pi), and leading Bible Studies for both his fraternity and football team. Dan graduated in May of 2004 and is now an Engineer for . . . well you can ask him about it ;)
HOW WE MET
According to Dan, he noticed Jessica at one of the first freshman orientation events, the square dance. Over the next four years, each admired the other from afar. Seeing that Dan and Jess ran in different crowds, were involved in their own busy schedules and had no classes even remotely in the same area (engineering and communication? Come on….) UNITL one day for their own personal reasons they both decided to take Civilization of Literature for 2 weeks in January. Lo, and behold, as Jessica is sitting in class on the first day, a handsome young man of Jessica’s dreams comes waltzing into the room, and sits down right in front of her. The professor then instructed the class to get another classmates’ phone number, and Dan whipped around and asked Jessica for her phone number. From there, a friendship developed, and regardless of some bumps in the road, God truly allowed a beautiful relationship to blossom. There were many nights spent walking and talking and enjoying the simple things of life together. They started a very refreshing relationship in February of their senior year. They both got jobs in the same area, and the rest, as they say, is history :)
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED
August 15, 2005
HOW IT HAPPENED
Well it’s a long story – painted with the stubbornness of Jessica and the impossibility to surprise her. Dan & Jessica had already spent a lot of time talking about marriage and the details. They both knew it was a matter of time before they were “officially” engaged. Dan, being annoyed that Jessica had thought too much and partially figured out some of his plans realized that the only way to surprise her would be to surprise himself and do it on a whim. So, Monday at work, Jess’ Mom called and said that they wanted to go to her and her Father’s favorite restaurant, Ruth’s Chris that night. While this struck Jessica as odd seeing that her Dad has to work late every Monday night, she went along with it. When she called Dan to tell him about it – he mentioned that he would probably have to stay late at work, and probably couldn’t come down till later. Jess assumed her parents would pick her up on the way, but Dan was insisting that a friend who was going to the game take her because her parents weren’t cooperating with her plans on getting a ride. So, in a huff, Jess drove home quickly after work, changed (because they were going to the Steelers Eagles game that night [Steelers won 38-31]) and drove to Dan’s work – where she secretly expected to meet him with a car full of roses or something. Instead, she met an empty parking lot, and their friend Janette who would take Jess into the city. They drove in Parkway traffic and Janette dropped Jess off at PPG place, where sitting at a table next to the fountain, was Dan :) Armed with roses and a beautiful mahogany box – he asked Jessica to be his wife :) After lots of hugs and tears and sitting together – they had dinner at Ruth’s Chris, and then went to the game to see Jess’ parents and watch the Steelers crush the Eagles! (Sorry, Mom) It was the perfect evening – Jessica couldn’t be happier than an evening with the man she loves, her parents, a delicious steak, and thousands of screaming y’inzers at a Steelers game! Moral of the story is that despite Jess' best (stubborn) attempts to spoil Dan's well thought out plans, he still prevailed and she still said yes. : )
