KELLY CHELTEN & STEVE DOMIN OCTOBER 14, 2006 Newlyweds for 1134 days! ABOUT KELLY In December 2002, I graduated from Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, MI) with a degree in Organizational Communications. I moved home to live with my parents who had recently purchased a home in Beverly Hills, MI which is surrounded by the Rouge River, a large nature pond, and a 40ft. cascading waterfall. I guess it wasn't so bad moving back in with the parents after all!
After working at Bally Total Fitness as a Sales Rep., an Event Planner for an upscale Italian Restaurant, and an Assistant Manager at a newly opened Detroit Brewery, I finally decided to start a career in Real Estate. I am currently working for our family owned business, Marketplace Homes, LLC. We are a real estate investment company that helps families with bruised credit buy their dream home through our exclusive Rent-To-Own program. We also help families who are facing foreclosure save their home from losing it to the bank. I love being able to work with my family while being able to help other families at the same time.
Speaking of buying homes, Steve and I just purchased our first home in Royal Oak and we are loving it! The home is an adorable 3 bedroom 2 bath Bungalow. We have a corner lot on a tree-lined street with about a 10 minute walk to downtown Royal Oak. For those of you who are not from Michigan, Royal Oak is the hot spot for young adults. There are lots of great restaurants, clubs, theaters, and shops. We originally were planning on living about 30 minutes north of here in Clarkston. After spending one month in Royal Oak, we thank God that our offer on the Clarkston home was not accepted. We absolutely love it here in Royal Oak!
ABOUT STEVE Steve graduated from Kalamazoo College and began a career working in the Finance and Insurance business. After working at two insurance companies, Steve decided he needed a change in jobs. He recently took a position working for Brinks Security where he will be doing outside sales in the Detroit metro area. He spent a week in Dallas, TX for company training. Lucky him!! Before he started his job, he was my handyman around the house, and what a great handyman he was! Although I think he prefers his sales job over his chores! For those of you in need of a great security system, make sure you contact Steve! (734-716-1694). HOW WE MET Steve and I met in the Fall of 1998. Steve was the roommate of a guy I dated in college. Many of you who knew us in college knew I couldn't stand Steve. He constantly pestered me. Maybe what my Mother told me was true, the boys who tease you do it because they like you!
After college, I was planning on moving to West Palm Beach, FL with my best friend Lauren Berquist. While visiting the area with my Mother, I received a phone call from Steve! I hadn't talked to him in several months, so it was a surprise to hear from him. I told him I might be moving to Florida and I would call him when I returned to Michigan. When I did call him, he asked me to be his date at an auction held at Madonna University. I accepted, but with a little hesitation. I was a little afraid he would still be the teaser he had always been. Believe it or not, we ended up having a wonderful time together! It was the best first date I had ever had! Two and a half years later we're in love and engaged!
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED September 5, 2005 HOW IT HAPPENED It was Labor Day and I had planned a BBQ at my parent's house. Steve's parents were invited as well as two of our friends who had just recently had a wedding of their own. We finished eating and Steve insisted that the two of us go out on the pond in my parent's row boat. It had been a dry month here in Michigan, so the water level was quite low. I didn't want to go in the boat because with the water level being so low, we would have to row ourselves through a thick layer of "muck" before we even got to the middle of the pond. I said I would only go if Matt and Monica would come with us. He said it wouldn't be romantic. So I agreed and we started rowing our way to the middle of the pond. I think I was complaining about the way the BBQ was going, worried about if everyone was having a good time, when Steve set his oars down inside the boat and looked straight into my eyes. I could tell something was up because he looked a little teary eyed and started telling me how happy he was to be with me. He reached into his pocket, pulled the ring box out and asked me to continue making him this happy for the rest of his life! I was so shocked that I actually said "How did you do this!". After telling me "you're supposed to say yes or no". I laughed then apologized and ofcourse, said yes! I was so shocked at this moment because Steve had led me to believe that he had absolutely no money and it would be awhile until he was able to buy a ring.
Steve slid the ring onto my finger and I still couldn't believe what had just happened! I desperately wanted to give him a kiss and a hug, but remember, we were in a two-person row boat and the water wasn't exactly the ideal place to take a dip. So we held hands, smiled at eachother, and enjoyed the beautiful day and moment we were sharing as we drifted our way back towards the shore.
