HOW WE MET
Amanda and Charlie first met in a scuba class in college at Virginia. They were in their 3rd year of school and became great friends during their 4th year. Charlie always had a little crush on Amanda-- and everyone could see it-- except Amanda.
After college Amanda went into the Peace Corps, serving in Madagascar. They managed to stay very close, even though letters usually took more than two months round-trip in the mail. As the friendship got stronger and the years went by, Charlie started to doubt that the relationship would ever be more than just a friendship. 9,000 miles away in Madagascar, Amanda was beginning to realize that she was falling in love with her best friend and starting to wonder if she'd missed her chance.
Amanda finished her Peace Corps service in the summer of 2002, and over the summer of 2002, the two best friends became much more.
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED

HOW IT HAPPENED
Amanda went back to Madagascar for the 4th time during the summer/fall of 2005, this time to complete her dissertation research. After a three month trip, she came home to Charlottesville in November. But while she was away, Charlie made a few secret arrangements...
A few days after Amanda returned Charlie took her apple picking on top of Carter's Mountain overlooking Charlottesville. Walking through the orchard at sunset on a cool fall day, Charlie got down on one knee and asked Amanda to marry him. She was surprised, speechless, and still a little jetlagged, but she did manage to say "yes."
