NICOLE PRILLAMAN & PARKER MCFARLAND SEPTEMBER 15, 2006 Newlyweds for 1451 days! ABOUT NICOLE After graduating from the University of Georgia in December of 2004, Nicole Elizabeth Prillaman moved to Atlanta to work with The Palmer Agency as their Long Term Care Insurance Specialist. She currently lives in Sandy Springs (which makes seeing her fiance' regularly very difficult!). She started attending NorthPoint Community Church in the summer of 2005. Since then, she has joined a community group there made up of 5 other wonderful Christian sisters. Nicole is the oldest of 4 siblings. Her mom lives here in Atlanta, but everyone else is out of state. Dad lives in Ohio and is also in the insurance industry, Collette attends the University of Akron, and Krista will graduate high school in Ohio this year. Her brother Christopher lives in Pennsylvania. ABOUT PARKER Robert Parker McFarland, Jr. grew up in Cumming, GA. He attended Covenant College for his undergraduate and then went to Mississippi College School of Law to become a fourth generation lawyer in the McFarland family. He also spent some time at the University of Georgia law school. Parker still resides in Cumming and has a law practice, McFarland & McFarland, P.C. there with his father Bob. He has been attending NorthPoint Community Church for 3 years now and is active in a community group as well. He is also the oldest of 4 siblings (first-born, best-born as he likes to say!). His brother Bryan is in real estate investments in Cumming. His other brother Preston is a commercial loan processor and was married to Beth on April 23, 2005. His sister Kara is in high school. HOW WE MET NorthPoint Community Church has a Singles Retreat every year over Labor Day weekend. Parker had been asked to attend in 2004 but declined to spend the time off at the lake. After his friends went that year and came back with stories about what a great weekend they'd had, Parker decided in 2005 he would definitely attend. On the other hand, Nicole had just started attending NorthPoint about one month before the retreat. She did not want to attend the retreat but after many nudges from God, decided to go ahead. I mean why not, it was a cheap vacation at the Hilton in Sandestin Florida and there was some "God-stuff" thrown in there too? How they both ended up missing the first Georgia Bulldawg home game of the season is a miracle in and of itself! One night apparently the Georgia Bulldawg came out in both of them and they decided to skip out on the retreat stuff for a couple hours and go to the bars. UGA had just had an incredible victory over Boise State...they HAD to go out and celebrate! Nicole was on the dance floor with her girlfriends when she caught a glimpse of a guy in full Georgia gear, the red polo and visor and everything. After some internal debate on whether or not to say anything, she yelled out "Go Dawgs!" as he walked by, and he said "Go Dawgs!" right back at her. Thus you have their first words spoken to each other and the beginning of a wonderful relationship built on belief in the same God, the same bars, and the same football team. WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED February 11, 2006 HOW IT HAPPENED We should start out with a little background. In January, Parker told Nicole that he would probably be in the middle of a pretty big trial on February 13 and 14. Her response? "So?" He said, "Well, we may have to do Valentine's Day another night." In her typical spicy way, she proceeded to go off about how much she hated Valentine's Day and would not be a part of it and how it is only meant for girls who have boyfriends and husbands who don't know how to be romantic on their own. Of course, he's thinking "Sweet, easy for me!" Now fast forward to February 4. Nicole had been sick for the past couple days and he decided to be really sweet and take her during the day to get a pedicure and then out to Stoney River for a nice dinner. At that time, he said he wanted to go out again the next Saturday. Now understand that most of their dates consist of fine dining because of their more-than-normal love of good food and good wine. February 11 he told her that he'd be at her house to pick her up around 7:30, which was pretty shocking because Parker is not really an ITP (Inside the perimeter) kind of guy. Nicole spent at least an hour getting ready because he said it would be a nice evening and they needed to dress up. He showed up with a dozen red roses and said "I know you don't like Valentine's Day but I'm hoping to change your mind." Looks like even the most stone-cold heart can be melted in the right hands! She said "Just the fact that you're trying has already changed my mind." They got in the car and went down to The Capital Grille. For dinner it was filet mignon and an amazing bottle of Cabernet...come to think about it, that's pretty much the only thing they eat every time they go out! Predictability, another thing they have in common. Anyways, back to the story. After enjoying the meal, they were sitting back gazing at each other (seriously, don't laugh!) and Nicole said "I never knew I could love someone as much as I love you." He got the cutest little mischievous grin and his face and said "Really? You mean that?" He got up and walked around the table to give her a hug and kiss. Then he got right down on his knee in the middle of the restaurant. Of course, Nicole is flipping out and not believing what she is seeing at this point! Now honestly, Nicole doesn't remember what was said from here on out...guess her mind was racing! But he got on his knee and said "I love you more than I ever thought it was possible to love another person." As he reached for his jacket pocket, and consequently Nicole starts shaking and crying, he said "I can't imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else. Will you marry me?" He set the ring box on the table and the woman at the next table said "Just say yes girl!" It was the most beautiful ring ever made in the history of rings. Perfect size, cut, color, clarity, everything! And he picked it out all by himself!! Nicole's first response? "Did you ask my dad?" Of course he did, one week prior, and upon hearing that she said yes! The wait staff at The Capital Grille was phenomenal the whole night and as soon as the yes came out of her mouth they had champagne and dessert brought to the table. WHEN & WHERE September 15, 2006
