JENNIFER BUTLER & KEITH BUTLER
OCTOBER 13, 2007
Newlyweds for 770 days!
HOW WE MET
Keith and Jenn met through an internet dating site. We sent smiles back and forth and then chatted over the computer before deciding to meet in person at a sushi restaurant in Metrotown. He had told me how much he liked dark chocolate so I stopped on my way to the restaurant to buy some. Keith met me in the mall outside the restaurant holding a single red rose. I thought it was great that he would be that thoughtful to bring me a flower (he scored "boyfriend points"). When I gave him his chocolate I scored "future girlfriend" points (note to self: must by stocks in Death By Chocolate). We went in for sushi and started chatting right away. In fact we talked so much that the waiter kept asking us if there was anything else we needed as a hint that we'd been there too long. We didn't kiss as we were saying goodnight but we did hug. Keith says now that he wanted to do things "right". He was a perfect gentlemen and that caught my attention!
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED
July 16, 2006
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first time he proposed to me happened in June and I don't think it really counts because I didn't take him seriously. He walked into my study and said "will this do?" and put a hose clamp on my left ring finger. That's right, a hose clamp. I sized it myself by turning the screw with a paperclip. I laughed and wore it off and on for about a week. That ring is still in my jewelry box. The second time he proposed things went a bit differently but were still true to Keith and Jenn style. Keith started Proposal Day by painting my living room. Then he took me to his parents' house for leftovers with his parents and cousins. Later that night as we sat on my love seat surveying his painting job he pulled the ring from his pocket and said "so, will you marry me?" I believe I said "yes". The story on how he asked my Dad for my hand is best told by him. I haven't heard it fully but am curious how Keith going to ask for permission to marry me turned into a conversation on building a telescopic metal bird feeder. Was I traded for a squirrel-proof bird feeder?
