Newlyweds for 521 days!
ABOUT AMY
About four years ago Amy moved to Baltimore, Maryland to be with her now husband-to-be. She is teaching in inner city Baltimore and cannot imagine being anywhere else. Amy teaches reading to two groups of second graders. This teaching experience had been an enlightening experience for her and it will have a lasting impression on her life for many years to come. During the weekends they are never at home. They are either going camping or hiking. When they are not doing one of those things they are spending time with families and preparing for the BIG day. Who knew it would require a whole year to get everything just perfect.
ABOUT NICHOLAS
Nich has been living in Baltimore for almost 5 years. He was a lonely bachelor for a while and then one Labor Day weekend Amy showed up at a party and the single life was over.
Nich works for a local Landscape Design company. He is extremely busy with drawing pictures of trees and flowers and figuring out the slope of someone's yard. He spends time talking to and making very rich clients happy.
Nich likes to relax on the weekends by reading fishing magazines or watching the latest Spanish Fly on TV. He adds his input on the BIG day when he feels it is necessary; however he is running out of vetoes.
HOW WE MET
One day when Amy was in Morgantown, WV minding her own business one of her really good friends, Joe Seese, called her up to see what the latest was. They sat on the phone for a couple of minutes and talked about small things. Little did Amy know, Joe had a plan. He asked what she was doing that coming weekend and invited her to his in-laws' lake house in the middle of West Virginia. She agreed and packed her bags. She thought it was going to be another weekend hanging out with Joe. Once she got there she figured it out. Everyone was buzzing about how Nich was single and he was this successful Landscape Designer in Baltimore. We all sat by that evening and little by little everyone was "going to bed". Nich and Amy sat around the fire that night and talked, needless to say they hit it off. There were many weekends spent driving back and forth from Morgantown to Baltimore and Baltimore to Morgantown until one Christmas Nich asked Amy to move to Baltimore. That June Amy backed her bags and the romance began.
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED
March 31, 2007
HOW IT HAPPENED
How he proposed -- One day in the middle of February 2007 Nich told a little white lie and said he was working late. Little did Amy know that he was meeting with a local jeweler to find the perfect engagement ring.
For the next month the ring remained under the driver's seat in Nich's Volkswagen. Sometime in late March, one week before the big proposal, Nich called the parents. Nich knew he couldn't call any earlier because he knew Lynne wouldn't be able to keep a secret for long. He made the call on his way home from work one day. Lynne answered the phone and he made small talk with her for awhile and then Nich asked for the Big Guy, Frank. Amy's dad got on the phone and Nich asked him if he could marry his daughter. Frank replied with a "You want to do what?". After a few seconds of laughter Frank said "Yeah, of course Nich". The phone was handed back to Lynne. By this time Nich was standing on the front porch of the apartment and Amy was snooping around asking him who was on the phone. Again Nich told a little white lie and said it was Brad and that he would be inside in a minute.
The next week passed without any mention of his intentions and then on a Wednesday evening Nich said "Let’s go to Mount Storm". It was agreed that we would make the three hour trip to his parents' property in the mountains of West Virginia. This weekend was a little different. Nich had called his parents to tell them that we would be spending the weekend up there alone. Now this never happens because Mount Storm is the place where the family gathers to spend time together. So naturally Amy was a little suspicious. So Friday after school Amy was driving around buying groceries and small things that they would need. Amy was talking on the phone, while driving (bad decision), to one of her friends telling her of the suspicious activity and then all of the sudden the police car lights turned on. She was being pulled over for turning left when she wasn't suppose too. (Side note: This was only the second time she had ever been pulled over.) The policeman let her off with a warning and she continued on her way. Nich got home and the car was packed and they were off to Mount Storm.
It was late Friday evening when they arrived so the car was unpacked and they went to bed. Early Saturday morning they woke up and made some coffee (a must in the house of a Snyder). They were enjoying a beautiful, sunny morning out on the deck when all of the sudden the clouds started to turn dark. Now, up at Mount Storm the weather can change in an instant -- hence the name Mount Storm. They decided to go check the temperature of the water because they knew that would be Emily's first question when they talked to her. Amy started down to the dock first because Nich had to get more coffee, or so he said. He sat down on the dock next to Amy. They were talking about the enormous spider that had floated across the water just the summer before and about all of the other lake memories. Amy said that it was probably time to head back because the storm was coming in. Nich started digging around in his pocket and said "Wait not yet...I got something for you" and he pulled the most beautiful ring out of his pocket and asked Amy to spend the rest of her life with him. Then the crying, hugging, and the kissing began. After all of that they decided that they should probably get off of the dock because with their luck the ring would have been dropped into the murky water, never to be seen again.
They started for Kingwood, WV because the storm had set in for the rest of the weekend. Nich had to take one of his famous "short cuts", which happened to be the most meandering road of West Virginia. Amy almost got car sick 3 times because she could not stop starring at the beautiful diamond on her hand. For the next chapter of the story you can see it unfold first hand on September 6, 2008.
